China Finds First Case of Monkeypox in Chongqing

Sebisa Bisnis Jogja - The first case of monkeypox or monkeypox in China was found in Chongqing City, Friday (16/9/2022), which was identified as an imported case. A patient exhibits suspicious symptoms, such as a rash. Quoted from Antara , the Chongqing City Health Commission explained that while in quarantine the patient was negative for COVID-19 but positive for monkeypox as the test results and diagnosis were verified by local and national health experts. Furthermore, the Chongqing Health Commission revealed that the patient's health at the referral hospital is in stable condition. Meanwhile, close contacts who have been successfully traced are being isolated for medical observation, as reported by local media, Saturday (17/9/2022). The World Health Organization (WHO) on July 23, 2022 announced that the outbreak of monkeypox should be of concern to the global community.

This was after several cases were found in a number of countries, such as Europe and the United States. Chinese health authorities formulate procedures for diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control. Hong Kong reported its first case of monkeypox on September 6, which afflicted a person who had recently traveled from the Philippines. To know one of the symptoms of a person infected with monkeypox disease is the appearance of a rash or lesions on the skin due to infection. Generally, the rash will appear near the genitals (penis, testicles, labia, and vagina) or the anus (butthole) and can be on other areas such as the hands, feet, chest, face, or mouth. The rash will appear gradually. In the early stages it will appear like a pimple or blister and may be painful or itchy before eventually turning into a rash, scab until it heals. Symptoms of monkeypox other than a rash on the skin However, although monkeypox is identical to the appearance of a rash on the skin, it turns out that there are other typical symptoms besides a rash on the skin. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists other common symptoms of monkeypox such as,

1. Fever
2. Feeling hot and cold
3. Swollen lymph nodes
4. You feel tired
5. Muscle and back pain
6. Headache
7 Respiratory symptoms (eg sore throat, stuffy nose, or cough) In fact, sometimes, some people infected with monkeypox may also experience flu-like symptoms before the rash appears on the skin. But there are also some people who develop a rash first, followed by other symptoms.

How is monkeypox transmitted?

Symptoms of monkeypox usually begin to appear within 3 weeks after a person is exposed to the virus. If a person has flu-like symptoms, they will usually develop a rash 1-4 days later. Monkeypox can spread from the moment symptoms appear until the rash heals, which is when all the scabs have disappeared, and a new layer of skin has formed. The disease usually lasts between 2 to 4 weeks. People are most at risk of transmitting the virus when they have lesions, then have skin-to-skin contact with another person, or if someone infects an object and then passes the virus on to others.

How to treat monkey smallpox?

Reporting from the Fact Check page, there is no specific treatment for this monkeypox virus infection or monkeypox. However, monkeypox and smallpox viruses are genetically similar, which means that antiviral drugs and vaccines developed to protect against smallpox can be used to prevent and treat monkeypox virus infections. The WHO also explained the same thing through its official website. According to the WHO, people with monkeypox should follow the advice of their health care provider. Monkeypox symptoms usually resolve on their own without the need for treatment. However, if needed, medications for pain (analgesics) and fever (antipyretics) can be used to relieve some symptoms.

In addition, it is important for anyone with monkeypox to stay hydrated, eat well, and get enough sleep. People who are self-isolating should also take care of their mental health by doing things that they can find relaxing and enjoyable such as watching movies, listening to music, staying connected with loved ones using technology, exercising if they feel well enough. People with monkeypox should avoid scratching the skin and treat rashes by cleaning their hands before and after touching the lesions and keeping the skin dry and exposed (unless they want to be in a room with other people, in which case they should cover it with clothing or a bandage). until they can isolate again). The rash can be kept clean with sterile water or an antiseptic. Meanwhile, to clean the lesions or rashes in the mouth, you can use intravenous fluids.
